Terry Freshmen Scholarship FAQ

The Terry Scholarship is intended to provide scholarships up to the cost of attendance to outstanding students. Other scholarships or aid and family household contribution will be considered when determining the Terry scholarship stipend.

The deadline to apply for the Terry Scholarship is January 2, 2018.

  • Be admitted by January 31, 2017 as an incoming freshman to Texas A&M University-College Station for the fall semester after high school graduation
  • be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident of the U.S,
  • attend a Texas high school or home school in Texas,
  • have strong academic abilities as evidence in your grades and SAT/ACT test scores,
  • have a record of leadership in school and community,
  • demonstrate financial need,
  • and live on-campus during freshman year at Texas A&M.
  • Required to submit three letters of recommendation and a high school transcript.*
*The above item will be requested for those who are being reviewed by the Texas A&M University Terry Scholarship Review Committee.

Note: Request for these items does NOT necessarily indicate that you will be forwarded to the Terry Foundation for an interview.
To apply for the Terry Scholarship, students should complete the ApplyTexas Application or the Coalition Application for Freshman Admission.  The deadline to submit the application is January 2, 2018. Please complete the admissions portion of the ApplyTexas Application first and then the scholarship portion of the application. This will allow for your information to pre-populate on the scholarship application. In order for you to be considered for the Terry Scholarship, you should complete all questions on the ApplyTexas Application for admissions and scholarships and submit both when complete.

  • All essays as required on the ApplyTexas Application (there are three; two for admissions and one for the Terry scholarship)
  • All students who are selected as Terry Scholarship recipients are REQUIRED to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 15.
Texas A&M Terry Scholarship Committee will send you a letter and/or email if you are one of the potential students who will be forwarded to the Terry Foundation for an interview.
Interviews are required; potential Terry scholarship recipients are contacted by the Terry Foundation in March to schedule the date, time and location for the interview. Interviews are typically held in mid-April. Your interview expenses will be reimbursed by the Terry Foundation.

You will learn whether you were selected to receive the Terry Scholarship in a letter from the Terry Foundation. You will be notified before May 1.
No, you must be a Texas resident to apply for this scholarship.
Yes, as long as you were home schooled in Texas and completed home school in Texas.
Yes, you can be considered if you are admitted or will attend Texas A&M at Galveston. For more information on the TAMUG Terry Foundation Scholarship Program, please visit tamug.edu.
You must maintain a 2.5 GPA overall, you must maintain a 2.0 GPA each semester. You will be required to attend a fall orientation session your first year and orientation lunch each year after your first, annual Terry fall banquet and the annual Terry Scholar picnic. You will receive information on these events and invitations from the Terry Foundation. You will receive a student handbook that will address in detail all the requirements.
If you receive university awarded academic scholarships of this type and you receive the Terry Scholarship, you will forfeit the academic scholarships that were awarded; however the Terry Scholarship will make up for the loss of these scholarships.
 
If you are selected for the Terry Scholarship the Scholarships & Financial Aid scholarships will be forfeited; the Terry Scholarship will make up for the loss of these scholarships.
